Matters discussed were the return of the Henry Parkes Museum and Antique Machinery Collections and that the Society was reverting back to is own operation.
The Society has agreed with Parkes Shire Council to break away from the Tourist Centre and operate as its own business.
The Parkes Historical Society has operated the Museum for 47 years and has been on the Peak Hill Road site for 45 years.
In December we will open our front doors and all entries will be made to us through there.
The doorway from the Tourist Centre and Car Museum will be closed.
All bookings for groups, schools, history and research will revert back to the Museum.
The one-ticket system will no longer be valid and each attraction will set their own price.
Please contact the Society for information on 0418 674 261
The Society is asking for your readers help with the Museum’s latest project – early photos of the Parkes District Hospital (coloured) if possible) from 1940 to 1960.

Newell Highway a disgrace
It is indeed reassuring to see the Newell Highway reopened after the recent flood, however it is a situation that should not be occurring in this day and age.
We are all now in the 21st century but the picture on the front page of the Forbes Advocate, and on page 33 of the Daily Telegraph both dated Friday, November 4, showed a road pathetically left behind in a previous century.
A National Highway, by definition, but surely not here in Australia, surely in some third world country, but no it is here in Australia.
This Highway is the direct link between Melbourne and Brisbane, two of Australia's major cities.
This Highway has been closed nine times in the past 70 years.
The impact on business in the Central West of NSW must be incalculable in dollar value, and obviously we have to predict that it will close a similar number of times in the next 70 years if nothing is done.
According to the report in the Forbes Advocate dated Friday, November 4, the Newell Highway Taskforce is making a submission to the Federal Government regarding flood proofing the Newell Highway with Forbes Shire Council support.
Hopefully, they have the support of the other effected Councils on the Newell, and also the support of our new Federal MP Michael McCormick.
The State Government should also be lobbied to support a submission that would be so beneficial to the Central West of NSW.
Surely, this situation of a National Highway continuing to be cut by flooding cannot be allowed to go on forever.
The cost of flood proofing will be high, but the cost of repeated repair together with the impact of road closure on business and commerce in to the future will be huge.
The Newell is a disgrace, planning to flood proof needs to start now.
Yours sincerely,
Alister Lockhart OAM
