Council at its January meeting approved a change to its organisational structure, adding back in a role of Director of Infrastructure.
In the next month they will look to recruit both this role and a Director of Engineering Services.
Council General Manager Kent Boyd - who previously held the infrastructure directorship - said the current structure had been reviewed in light of the adopted four-year delivery program.
The Director of Infrastructure will take control of major works in the forward delivery plans as well as water, sewer, drainage and nature resources.
“We have got $50 to $60 million in water and sewer projects this year and we believe that warrants a higher level of project management,” Mr Boyd said.
“This is the biggest capital expenditure program we have had and it needs to be properly resourced.”
He said the project management expertise would benefit council even after the current list of major projects was complete.
The Director of Engineering will control strategic planning, roads, airports, pools, asset management, parks and gardens, cemeteries, sports grounds, bush fire management, quarries, street cleaning and emergency management.
