It proved to be a close and exciting event as the field of some 20 pairs enjoyed the brilliant weather conditions.
The event is normally played in cold and damp conditions during the middle of winter and players often complain they have difficulty holding their clubs, let alone swinging and hitting the ball.
Sunday’s sunshine was welcome relief.
In the major championship division, Robert Hey and Lynne Guise proved too good as they recorded a convincing three shot victory after rounds of 80 and 40.
They finished three shots clear of favourites Ian Phipps and Kaye Jones.
Hey, at the presentation of trophies, congratulated his partner while he also thanked the Parkes branch of the ANZ Bank for its 35 years of continuous sponsorship.
He congratulated all players who contested the event.
Runners-up Phipps and Jones were not disgraced. Both congratulated the winners on their fine rounds.
In the Consolation Division for players whose combined handicaps totalled 18 ½ or more, John Davies and Colleen Flynn recorded a comfortable three shot victory over Laurie and Dawn Wakefield.
Flynn not only congratulated and thanked the sponsor but paid the highest compliment to her partner.
She also reminded the large crowd in attendance for the presentation that she had one secret weapon.
“Due to my partners hearing problems, I could curse him for his mistakes without him knowing,” Flynn laughed.
The event is renowned for many arguments between partners.
In the handicap section, a surprise in the major Championship Division saw Wayne “Pup” Parker team up with Ann Berkeley to record an emphatic five and a quarter shot victory after finishing the event at four under par 102 nett.
Parker congratulated the club for the conduct of the event as well as the players who committed to contesting it.
Parker and Berkeley edged out Hey and Guise who finished on 107 and a quarter nett.
In the Consolation Division, Laurie and Dawn Wakefield had sweet revenge when they finished the event on 102 and a quarter nett.
Finishing runner-up in the handicap section were Joe Van Opynen and Judy McCabe on 108 nett.
Ball winners were Mitch McGlashan and Melissa Russell on 105 nett, Ian Phipps and Kaye Jones 107.5, John Davies and Colleen Flynn 108.25, David and Leone Stevenson 109.25, and Steve Simpson and Cath Kelly 109.75.
Prior to the presentation of trophies, both the Club President Ross Smith and Club Captain Paul Thomas congratulated the ANZ Bank for its 35 year sponsorship.
They also congratulated the players who made the event the success it was.
