Fit and strong volunteers needed for wine show pack-down

Organisers have called on gym buffs to trade the bench press and weights rack for a day at the Cowra Wine Show, to help volunteers pack down tables, chairs and heavy items.

Chief Steward Jenni Fagan welcomed those able to volunteer their time and their strength to support one of the busiest events across Cowra.

“We always welcome new faces who are willing hands,” she said.

“The volunteers are fantastic, they know what’s to be done, and they do it … I appreciate the work everybody does.”

Cowra Mayor Paul Smith encouraged young people in particular to get a taste and a tipple at the show, while lending their strength to some of our most dedicated and ageing volunteers.

“We can always use volunteers. One of our problems is that our volunteers are getting very old, and the heavy lifting is hard going. Volunteers are hard to come by, and appreciate their help,” he said.

“If you want to do something for the town, come and help. We have 1000 hours of volunteer labour that we need to run the wine show, from people putting up heavy tables, putting all the bottles out on the tables, to people that just come during the show and polish glasses.”
