An investigation is underway after a six-month-old baby was found dead at a home in south east Melbourne after reports a child had been seriously injured.

Police were called to an address in suburban Mernda with reports a child had been critically injured about 9pm on Friday.
The infant's body was found inside the house by Victoria Police.
Victoria Police said a 36-year-old woman was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains under police guard.
Nobody else is being sought in connection with the incident.
