It has been a wet and stormy start to 2022, but as this amazing rainbow signifies there are certainly better days ahead in 2022 for our amazing shire.

Dogs all around the shire have been cowering under desks and beds, with thunder seeming to roll through everyday much to their disgust!

In the opening two weeks of 2022, the Bureau of Meteorology's station at the Parkes Airport has already recorded 91mm of rain, with almost all of that coming on January 7 and 8 - though many keen amateur meteorologists in town have recorded far more than that.

Those two days also featuring exceptionally strong winds, with a maximum wind gust of 65km/hr recorded on January 6, with a top gust of 57km/hr coming on January 7.

It has also been a hot to start 2022, with a top temperature of 36 degrees celsius, and an average top temperature of 33.3 for the first 12 days of the year.

And if you missed it, the current La Nina weather pattern is tipped to continue well into Autumn - so there's more rain on the way!

It continued the trend of wet weather throughout 2020 and 2021, after three years of low rainfall and devastating drought.

On the back of just 558mm of rain falling across 2018 and 2019, 1727mm has fallen over the past two years.

Steady periods of rain meant 857mm fell in 2021, and you can bet there will be more to ring in the New Year.

Bring it on, 2022!
