When Parkes Services Club general manager Mike Phillips handed over a cheque for $12,000 earlier this week, Parkes Jockey Club president Mark Ross said what the Services Club does is far more than just money.
Of course $12,000 goes a long way for a small racing club, keeping it afloat in tough times, but Ross said all the little things they do behind the scenes were just as valuable.
"They help us out financially of course, but in many other ways too and the club is very appreciative," said Ross,
"For example during COVID when we couldn't have our Quota ladies on course, they catered for the jockeys and stewards, that is a big burden on us so that really was appreciated.
"In January at our Australia Day meeting it can be very hot, so we need a lot of ice and they (the Services Club) organise all that and buckets of water around the place.
"So all those little things really add up to help the club out enormously," said Ross.
Phillips said he was pleased the club was able to continue its support of the Parkes Jockey Club, both monetarily and otherwise.
"It's great that the board have been so supportive," he said.
"It's the behind the scenes stuff, like letting them utilise our meeting rooms as well - that's why its a partnership, not a sponsorship.
"We've probably been working together for over a decade, so it's fantastic," said Phillips.

The Parkes Jockey Club will be utilising those meetings rooms on Tuesday, December 7, at 7pm when they conduct their 2021 Annual General Meeting, and Ross is encouraging anyone interested to get involved.
"We're just encouraging anyone that is interested, not only for horse racing, but for the social aspect of the club as well, to get involved," he said.
"We lack extra social events around our race meetings, like a calcutta for example, so having a little sub-committee would be fantastic.
