The retiring Cr Barbara Newton was re-elected Deputy Mayor of the Parkes Shire Council until December at Tuesday's monthly council meeting.
COVID-19 restrictions forced the Local Government Elections, originally scheduled for September 4, to be postponed until December - meaning there was an additional period to make up.
Cr Newton said earlier this year that she would be stepping down, but didn't hesitate in the slightest when asked to step back into the position until December, and was thankful for the support of all those in attendance at the meeting.
"It's lovely having the opportunity to see my term out...thank you to my fellow councillors for your trust in me," she said.
Parkes Shire Council's managing director Kent Boyd sung Cr Newton's praises when ratifying the decision on Tuesday.
"Cr Newton was first elected in September 2004 and was named Deputy Mayor in 2015, so this is her sixth year of being the deputy," he said.
"It's been a great pleasure to work with her...she has done a wonderful job and left this council better off in so many ways."
Elections for the Parkes Shire Council will take place on Saturday, December 4.
