"This means you don't have to wait to complete your form on Census night," Andrew Henderson, Census Executive Director and National Spokesperson, said.
"We know people expect flexibility and convenience, so this makes it easier for people to fill in their Census when it best suits them.
"Households across the country have started receiving Census letters with instructions on how to complete their Census online, or how to order a paper form.
"In some areas, households will receive a paper form and we'll supply a reply-paid envelope for its return," Mr Henderson said.
"If you are yet to receive your Census instructions, or would like to complete a separate Census form to the rest of your household, you can get a Census number or request a paper form on the Census website.
"We also have braille forms, audio instructions, video guides with closed captions, and translation services available."
WHAT ELSE IS MAKING NEWS:
Census data is a snapshot of who we are and how we are changing.
It's used to inform important decisions about social and economic services for individuals, families and communities.
It's a timely reminder for parents and carers to include all children in their care on Census night on the household form.
Data from the 2016 Census showed 1 in 20 children aged 0-4 were not included on Census forms that year. That's 5.1 per cent of kids in Australia on Census night missing from the household form at the place they were staying.
"Welcoming a baby into the world is a very exciting time for parents and to help them get the best start to life, we're reminding families across Australia about the significance of counting their newborns this Census," Averil Templar, Census Executive at the ABS said.
Organisations like Playgroup NSW use Census data to help plan where a playgroup would be beneficial to local families.
"Census data gives us insights into population, age, and other important statistics which helps us create the best possible impact through play-based programs and services," Nadene Lee, CEO of Playgroup NSW said.
If you won't be home on Census night, it's important that you visit the Census website to report that the home will be vacant.
You need to indicate whether the residents are staying elsewhere or travelling.
