We tried shooting with masks on only to discover is was almost impossible as all our telescopic sights fogged up and you could not see through them. It was then discovered we did not have to have them on whilst competing, they only had to be worn before and after.
Our next shoot is at 10am this Sunday and it will be similar to ordinary targets, only five more targets at 25 metres.

Women's Bowls
Day 5 of the Games, sunny conditions with the typhoon-driven winds whipping the Aussie flag out straight, surprisingly low humidity. All in place for great competition!
As always, the games do not happen without an army of volunteers. Thank you Ground Control boys, our trusty Umpire, Gwenda, and Maureen, for keeping us hydrated. We love your work.
President Maureen conducted a uniform check and gave the motivational talk before we headed out to take up our starting positions in designated lanes.
In lane 4, the event of the day was to take place. After a warm-up to calm their nerves, Team Byrne (Carol Reed, Maria Willcockson and Liz Byrne) and Team Miller (Chris Curteis, Cherie Frame and Elaine Miller) settled in to contest the Club Championship Triples title for 2021.

Fittingly for a final; it was an exciting, close match, with the lead changing several times.
Scores were 21-20 with just one end left to play before Team Miller won the final end, taking the title 23-20, and heading off to the podium to accept their gold medal.
An appreciative crowd applauded both teams' efforts, as Chris and Cherie shouldered Elaine off the track.
In the 'repechage' social games, one team on each track sprinted away to open up double-figure leads.
Kim Evans/Chris Cox/Maureen Miller/Joan Simpson paid the penalty for too many late nights of Olympic TV viewing, going down to Julie Green/Lea Orr/Betsy Johnstone/Heather Harvey, in lane 6.
Several yellow cards were given for straying outside the playing field!
It was a silver medal for Kay Craft/Lorraine Baker/Marja Iffland/Maureen Baillie after their rivals, Jan McPhee/Lynn Ryan/Brenda Davies/Rhona Went, avoided all obstacles and opened up an unbeatable lead in lane 2.
The lucky cards' draw saw Jan, Lynn, Brenda and Rhona patting each other on the back, while Liz, Kay and Betsy were all smiles as they headed off to the bar with their 100's of club dollars!
Betsy and Brenda sang a moving rendition of the national anthem on such an auspicious day.
Next week, August 3, the nominations for the Club Championship Fours will open. There will be a committee meeting after bowls.
To play social bowls (newcomers always welcome) call the club, 6862 1446, between 9 - 9.30am, with play to begin at 10.

Railway bowls
Hello Bowlers. Our winter weather continues but last Saturday there was a game of Championship Triples, Singles and 10 keen social players.
In the Singles, Sam Teague took on Paul Kirwan. Paul went out to a 20-10 lead on 23 ends, but Sam rallied to trail 20-26 on 33 ends. Paul got his stuff together in the end, going on to win 31-21.
In the Triples, this was a game fit for a final. Peter Creith, Peter Job and Lea Tanks went up against Steve Frame, Ray Griffith and Steve Torrens.
Neck and neck the raced each other, trading shot for shot. On 11 ends it was 8-all and so it went. On 20 ends, Team Peter lead 16-14, then with Steve holding three shots and game on the last end; Peter came down with his last bowl, picked up the jack and put it in an impossible spot to get at. It meant Peter, Peter and Lea won 18-14.
In the social games, winners were Jake Brown and Terry Harvey W16+15. Hope you gave Terry his share Jake?
Runners up Mick Dunn, George Greenhalgh and Allan Affleck W15+4.
On Sunday, Greg Howlett versus Ray Griffith in the major singles was played. Ray went on to win 31-20 and is into the next round.
Wednesday there wasn't any social bowls played, but George Greenhalgh and Mike Parkes tried to play their Major singles match.
In another close game it was 19-18 in favor of Mike, then the clouds opened up and it was decided to finish off the game on Thursday at 2pm - will letyou know the result of that one.
So keep safe and see you at the Railway.
