Dressed in full personal protective equipment and standing in some very cold, windy temperatures were health professionals from the Lachlan Health Service and NSW Health's Public Health Unit; testing Parkes residents for COVID-19 after a positive case in the region.
How do they stay motivated and mentally healthy in the midst of a pandemic that has changed life as we know it for the time being?
Caitlin Thomas, a nurse at the Parkes Hospital, said keeping everyone safe is a big motivator, and relieving stress once they clock off is paramount.
"We know we're helping the community, we all want to stay safe and keep everyone safe," she said.
"We all relieve stress differently; but hot showers and baths, Netflix or favourite tv shows and good belly laughs are all great ways."
They deserve all of our praise, admiration and thanks for being shining lights in our community.
To all those frontline workers, thank you. You are our heroes.
