This was a very cold day and to see so many turn up despite the weather was great. Like previous days at sporting clays where 18 shooters turned up on a freezing day, you can't pick it.
Our next shoot is at 10am this Sunday and will be standard targets at both ranges. Remember masks are to be worn.

Ladies bowls
Parkes Women's Bowling Club has come of age! The grand age of 70 - a milestone worth celebrating!
Players and members emerged from their snug homes to attend the big bash, some in present-day uniforms, some very brave "white leghorns" (white handbag and all!) and the remainder looking more like cricket umpires in bright white (perhaps swayed by last week's report!)
Groundsman Greg was out preparing the yard for us and deciding where to hang the pinata. Thanks Ground Control!
In cold, wintery conditions, four teams contested the semi finals of the Club Championship Triples. Neither match was gifted to the winning team, close scores reflecting this.
Just outside the kitchen door, Kim Evans/Rosemary Mitchell/Maureen Baillie allowed their opponents, Carol Reed/Maria Willcockson/Liz Byrne, to amass a good lead from the outset.
Following Team Baillie's first scoring end, the margin narrowed gradually until all was square after 19 ends.
Team Byrne won the last two ends, final score 19 - 17. What a great tussle!
Over near the play equipment, the scores were see-sawing back and forth in the other semi.
Chris Curteis/Cherie Frame/Elaine Miller earned their cake and a place in the Final after dominating the last few ends against Merilyn Rodgers/Lynn Ryan/Lea Orr, who were left with just the crumbs of a 19-15 score line.
After a photo shoot around the "70" outlined with bowls, old black and new coloured ones, the social games began down near the chook yard.
Eileen Bradley/Vi West/Betsy Johnstone kept everything very friendly in their game vs Kay Craft/Flo Riseborough/Hilda McPherson with all partygoers enjoying a draw.
Also close and friendly were Fran Dixon/Gwenda Carty/Chris Cox romping with Valmai Westcott/Julie Green/Brenda Davies, with Fran winning the prize for the "coolest" costume!
Helen Heraghty/Jan McPhee/Rhona Went took control in the sandpit, winning party poppers for their efforts against Heather Harvey/Joan Simpson/Marja Iffland.
As sleet began to fall, we moved the party into the warm indoors, the pinata forgotten!
Happy winners of raffle prizes and card draw were Liz, Lea, Chris, Fran, Brenda and Valmai.
Thank you to the Little Black Dress boutique for the generous raffle prize, and Joan too, for your donation.
Maureen amused the gathering with a brief history of the Club (loved the bit about asking the men's club for permission to buy cordial for the women!)
A delicious luncheon, much chat & laughter, & a glass or three of cheer followed. Thanks to Col, Ian & Trevor, our BBQ chefs.
Joan Simpson, our longest playing member, and Julie Green, newest member, cut Fran's fabulous cake. (Did anyone note the colour of the 'bowl' near the jack? )
The usual frivolity of a party-themed Trading Table supplied many lucky winners with their week's alcohol and other goodies, Liz and Julie in particular!
As the long lunch went on, strains of 'You've Done Us Proud' filtered through the club. Not sure if they managed all 50 verses!
What an awesome day, thanks for having us!
Next week, July 27, to play social bowls call the club, 6862 1446, between 9-9.30 am, with play to begin at 10am.

Social golf
Only nine brave golfers of the Parkes Services Club Social Golf Club fronted up for a very cold Sunday morning, with the scores confirming the cold.
Winner of the Stableford event with 35 points was 'Rowdy' Robbie Rea followed by Nick Strudwick with 32 points and Richard Hamilton on 30 points, well done.
In the nearest the pins for the women was a very welcome newcomer Kath Jeffress on the 4th and 11th - look out ladies you have a new sharpshooter to contend with!
In the men's nearest the pin, Nick Strudwick claimed the 1st with Robbie Rea claiming the 4th and 6th plus a birdie and Richard Hamilton the 11th.
Tam proud to announce The Bunny Award and the carrots went to Mick 'IGA' Smith; with the lucky card winner Nim Dzuiba.
In the raffle, Robbie Rea had a big day and received 1st place with runners up going to Rod 'Noisy' Luyt, Bruce Symonds and yours truly: Phill 'Hoppy' Smith.
Next week we have our monthly medal and putting competition proudly supported by the Services Club, so please make an effort to get back and support the club.
The week after will be a teams event with Lyn 'Rooster' Davison and Dale 'Koala' Stait donating the trophies.
This is a wonderful little club and we welcome new players and old players to come along and enjoy yourselves, good golfing.

Railway bowls
Well what a day on Saturday, not the best day for bowls but 10 crazy players turned out for social bowls and two games of Championship bowls.
It was blowing the dogs off their chains and extremely cold, but in the social side of things Lea Tanks and Paul Lewin W13+14, with the runners up Mick Furney, Jake Brown and Rose Jadia W12+6.
In the Championship pairs in very windy conditions, John Corcoran and Greg Howlett took on Mike Parkes and George Greenhalgh.
Mike and George got off to a great start, before going onto win the game.
In the other game, Peter Creith and Peter Job went up against Pat Cooney and Marty Fitzpatrick.
This game was also difficult for everyone in the wind, but the two Peters handled it better going on to win.
On Wednesday it was a much nicer day, with 16 players turning up.
Winners were the two As, Aaron Thorne and Allan Affleck W20+11 and the runners up were Gene Rapp and Allan Curteis W17+1.
The margins were 1, 6, 11 and 17. Marble 20 came out, so next weeks jackpot will be a huge $36.
Depending on the weather, there will be three games on the weekend, good luck to all in the pointy end of the season.
At this stage we are still playing, but the lockdown in Orange is close to home, so everybody keep safe and adhere to the COVID-19 news and policies.
The maintenance committee has been very active again with the Bowls room being updated and the ladies restroom having a new vanity.
Thankyou to Allan Curteis and Terry George they both look fantastic.
While we can, see you at the Railway for a game of friendship.
