The community group is looking to raise $20,000 so they can purchase a Trishaw to take older and limited mobility citizens on rides.

The $1000 cheque from the Parkes Service Club takes the fundraising tally to $11,700.

A trishaw costs in the vicinity of $20,000, with an estimated $5000 per year for ongoing maintenance costs.

It's a light three-wheeled vehicle with pedals, a type of tricycle designed to carry passengers.

When the Parkes chapter had one on loan earlier this year, it was a smash hit with aged care residents, with smiles everywhere from ear to ear.

So if you donate to the cause, know that you are making a real difference for our older residents, and those with limited mobility.

A trishaw ride gives them the chance to have the wind through their hair!

Pleasingly for sponsorship officer Warren Edwards, all that money has come right from the community.

"The $11,000 we've raised so far has all come from local business and residents; plus a lot of off the street donations, which is fantastic," he said after being presented with the cheque last Friday.

The group joined the Cycling Without Age (CWA) movement, a worldwide not-for-profit organisation which originated in Denmark in 2012 that connects people who are no longer able to ride themselves with their community and the outdoors by giving them free rides on trishaws piloted by volunteer cyclists.
