It's the second Monday in June, so we're celebrating the Queen's birthday, and with that we get to celebrate the people in our communities who go above and beyond for their people.
A similar thread ties all these people together, their humility. Most agree they're doing what they love and that giving is the greatest reward of all.
In a volunteering or professional capacity, these are the people who keep Australia going, and now, more than ever they deserve this acknowledgement.
This year's recipients from our regional towns and communities, include health workers on the COVID-19 front line and behind-the-scenes working with mental health.
There's people who have volunteered for years in their communities from the performing arts to the community and neighbourhood based organisations.
There's former politicians, former councillors and a variety of long-serving firefighters.
There's Shirley Stonestreet from Dubbo who has been acknowledged for volunteering in a variety of organisations over the years and Margaret Vincent who has been a long-standing nurse, midwife and volunteer with St John's ambulance in the Illawarra.
Returned soldier Trevor Duniam said he nearly fell of his chair in shock when he received an email about his award.
It's people like Mr Duniam and Mrs Stonestreet who help make their communities what they are today.
It's people like these who make it such a pleasure to be a journalist in regional Australia.
Happy birthday Queen Elizabeth. But really, Happy Queen's birthday to all our worthy recipients-and a big congratulations.
