It's penciled in calendars all over the Central West; the Fashions on the Field at the annual June long weekend Parkes Picnic Races.

Fashionistas and lawyers Elizabeth Pakchung and Dixie Coulton were announced as the judges in March, and they will be running their eye over the entrants, who will contest four different categories.

What the judges are looking for

  • Modern cutting-edge style and originality
  • Discreet elegance and fine craftsmanship
  • Attention to detail with accessories
  • Excellent grooming and deportment
  • An understanding of current fashion trends for winter

How can you stand out from such a well dressed crowd though? We've got a few key tips for you.

1- Make a statement

Whether it be with your accessories or millinery, the rise of statement pieces has seen some very dramatic looks that appeal to judges. How about a long earring with a pop of colour?

2- Don't be afraid of prints

This one is for the fellas in particular. Ties, pocket squares, suits - you name it, colourful prints are right on trend. It's not about matching too much either, add in a pastel accessory to go with a vivid pocket square.

3- Be inspired by winter

A rusty red or brilliant blue are always a safe bet for winter, but dark orange tones seem to be on trend in 2021.

4- Magnificent millinery

The most exciting part of picking the perfect Picnics outfit - headwear! Brimmed hats always stand out thanks to their classic lines, and are elegant without being showy.
