PARKES BOWLS
Major singles
On Saturday, two games of first to 31 shots singles were played.
The first was a quarter final Majors game between very seasoned and experienced player Mick Went against Marty Tighe, with Gary McPhee as marker. This game began with both players scoring consistently until Mick gained some ascendancy and was leading by 7 shots on the 16th end. Marty replied and came back to give himself a chance when on the 26th end and 8 shots down, scored 8 shots in 4 ends to be trailing 28-29. With the game hanging in the balance Mick scored 1 shot on the 31st and 32nd end to register a 31 shots to 28 win.
Congratulations Mick, and Marty should be proud of the effort he put in, and will only improve with the experience and insights he gained in this cracker of a game. Mick now proceeds to a semi-final against Greg Townsend
In the other quarter final in Major singles, Mark Dwyer will play Steve Turner in the near future to ascertain who will play Brett Frame in the other semi-final.
Minor singles
In a first round game of Minor singles, Greg Townsend headed on to the rink to do battle with one of our regular and best clubmen Bob Freeman with Bernie Mitchell as marker. On the 7th end the scores were locked at 6-all but from then on Greg pulled away to score a comfortable win.
Major triples has reached the final game with the trio of Steve Turner, Guy Ellery and Wilbur Harris to play Greg Townsend, Mark Dwyer and Mick Went.
All players who have games to play are reminded that the No.2 state pennants playoffs are at our club in July so please arrange your games ASAP to alleviate any backlogs.
Major Pairs
On Sunday, the duo of Guy Ellery and Gary McPhee contested a major pairs semi final against Andrew Reynolds and Zone 4 rep player Mark Dwyer. In a game where team McPhee were dominant with Guy Ellery playing fantastic lead bowls, the score on the 16th end was 16-5 in team McPhee's favour. Team Dwyer picked up a 5 on the 17th end but team McPhee came back on the 18th with a 3 and went on from there to have a commanding 21 shots to 11 win.
Team McPhee now plays the duo of Tom Furey and Dave Johnson in the Major pairs final on a date to be advised.

PARKES GOLF
Saturday saw the Telescope Tyres & Batteries / Hankook Masters Monthly Medal sponsored by Central West Pest Management. Our thanks to these sponsors for their ongoing support of the PGC.
There were 97 golfers out enjoying the fine winters day.
A-grade
Riall Harrison kept his good form rolling with a 74 off the stick to take out the day, 3 strokes clear of the field. Riall shone for Parkes in the Condobolin Open the previous Sunday and proves hard to beat currently. Aaron Wilkie and Myles Smith performed admirably, recording 77 creditable scratch scores.
In the nett event the evergreen Ian Phipps presented his best round for a while with a 70 nett that won the day but only after beating Myles Smith on a countback. They were closely followed in by Blake Parker with a 71 nett. With the air chilled, the course off the blue markers and the course still damp from midweek rain only 5 golfers could beat 80 in the scratch stakes.
B-grade
Michael Dellaca surprised himself and fellow competitors by hitting a solid 84 off the stick resulting in a 67 nett to take both events. Michael has been on the course straightening the drives and fine touching the short game so deserved his good result. Anthony Lock was next best in the scratch with 86 and Robert Rea 6 strokes behind in the nett.
C-grade
Chris Goodie hit 94 off the stick to take out the scratch event. He finished 3 strokes clear of Sam Standen. Chris was overjoyed to get back into some good form and will be hard to beat in upcoming events. Brendan Smith took out the nett event with an excellent 66 the best of the day and a clear 5 strokes in front of Sam Standen.
Other awards
In the Wally Normal medal, John Fowler won the event for the first time on a countback from a few players.
In the Griffins Leading Edge Putting competition, Ian Phipps showed where the strong point of his round was as he recorded the magical 24 putts in his round.
