Affectionately known as Bozo, Fulton led the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles on the field during a golden era for the club in the early 1970s and won three premierships.
He added more accolades to his sparkling resume as a coach, as he guided the Sea Eagles to two more titles, and brought home two World Cups with the Kangaroos.
As a captain, coach and selector, Fulton's figure loomed large over rugby league in its most popular era and the current day.
He was one of the sport's initial four Immortals when the concept was unveiled in 1985, Fulton also played 35 Tests for Australia and 16 matches for NSW in the pre State of Origin era.
Fulton's former colleagues on 2GB radio broke down as they delivered the news on Sunday afternoon.
"I've announced some sad things on radio but this could be the saddest," Ray Hadley said.
"I'm going to miss him, he was a great man ... the most loyal friend I've ever had. He'll be sadly missed."
Meanwhile in the entertainment world, the life of another Bob is being honoured.
Bob Dylan turns 80 on May 24.
As a luminary figure, Dylan has been ever-present in the world of popular music for almost seven decades.
His songs have been the soundtrack for momentous points in history and also moments personal reflection for countless people across many generations.
His presence has been felt immensely, but his output has been analysed, criticised and, perhaps, lionised unlike anyone else's in the same era.
Writing for ACM, Dan Dixon written down all he knows about the ever-present, ever-changing and largely unknowable character known as Bob Dylan. You can read it here.
