The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is lighting up the Dish orange, along with many other Australian icons, to show support of SES volunteers. WOW Day on May 19 is part of National Volunteer Week (May 17-23).
For this one-off event, the Dish will light up orange from 7pm to 9pm.
The Observatory's Visitors Centre gates will be open for the night to allow those interested to access the public area in front of the centre for any photo opportunities.
"Lighting up CSIRO's Parkes Radio Telescope is our way of showing our support and appreciation for our local NSW SES volunteers," operations scientist John Sarkissian OAM said.
