The garage sales have been shut down until and if that happens, the last taking place on May 8.
It's come as a bit of a shock to the volunteers, who heavily rely on the money raised from the monthly sales to support and help cover costs for the town's cancer patients.
The Parkes Showground Land Manager and committee made the unfortunate decision to demolish the deteriorating and damaged 100-year-old buildings over the next few months on the grounds of safety, announcing the news last Tuesday.
"The garage sales are the biggest fundraisers for us," Parkes Can Assist president Sylvia Glendenning said.
"We are supporting 150 to 200 people all the time, per year that's a lot of money."
Up to 14 volunteers started packing up the donations last Monday and it's been no simple task, with the garage sale items occupying the entire main pavilion.
It's also the second time in as many months volunteers have needed to pack up the pavilion, to make room for this year's Van Nationals event that took place at the showground over the Easter long weekend.
"We have until the end of the month (to pack)," Sylvia said.
"We had just unpacked after Van Nationals."
Sylvia said they do have some options for storage but they're also appealing to the community for a new temporary premises.
"We do need somewhere big with a suitable area nearby for parking," she said.
If anyone can help Can Assist please call Sylvia on 0428 484 447 or secretary Pat Bailey on 0447 051 946.
