Stage three of its restoration is complete, revealed at Parkes Shire Council's April 20 meeting, and within its $350,000 budget.
Council received funding through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund to continue upgrading the hotel in the village's main street.
The hotel was established in 1894 and was gutted by fire in 1997. The hotel licence was sold and the building earmarked for demolition.
With the Peak Hill community banding together to save the building, the owner donated it to council for community use. Council has been undertaking alterations to restore the building ever since.
Stage one of restorations involved stabilising and repairing the facade and interior, and erecting a new roof, completed in 2002.
Stage two was the fit-out, which was a slow and arduous task due to lack of funding.
The scope of works for stage three was the rehabilitation of the upstairs area and adjoining verandah, to enable the space to be operational again for events, meetings and community gatherings.
Council will be hosting its May meeting at the premises next Tuesday.
