Like an amusement park ride, the trishaw - a rickshaw or type of tricycle - that visited Parkes on Friday had passengers lining up for a ride.
A group of six from BIKEast in Sydney brought one of their trishaws to town for demonstrations after a new volunteer group in Parkes formed called Cycling Without Age to purchase one to take elderly and less mobile residents on regular rides.
The BIKEast trishaw was made possible for them thanks to a matching grant and donation from City of Sydney and Woollahra councils.
The trishaw was spotted in the main street on Friday before it visited the three aged care homes to give some residents a taste.
It did another trip of the main street on Saturday morning, afterwards BIKEast volunteers conducted some training to potential cyclists in PAC Park.
And Parkes representative Peter Guppy said the response was fantastic.
"You should see the smiles on their (residents') faces, that's what it's all about," Peter said.
One Niola resident Harry Guise was overheard saying "bloody oath" when asked if he enjoyed the ride as staff were just as excited as the residents.
The trishaw is ideal and especially intended for people like 87-year-old Joe Tanswell, who enjoyed his turn.
He couldn't recall the last time he'd been on a bike ride.
"It's pretty handy, going around and having a look," he said.
"I used to live on a farm and I love to get out and about, go down the street and have a yarn."
Cycling Without Age - Parkes is fundraising to purchase a trishaw for the shire, which costs in the vicinity of $20,000.
