The Parkes Pool Senior Leadership Team wanted to host a Friday Family Fun Night on January 29 and submitted a proposal to Parkes Shire Council, which was tabled and approved at its November monthly meeting.
The night will run from 6pm to 9pm with the leadership team organising games, swimming races and relays, splash competitions, live music and a food vendor.
Parkes ladies Georgia Sideris and Gracey Denham-Jones will be the live entertainment and Taste of Greece is the food vendor.
A COVID plan will be in place to ensure social distancing and contact tracing can occur should the need arise.
The Parkes Shire community is welcome to attend and enjoy an evening at the pool.
The event will cost council about $2000 to cover wages and the live music but councillors were happy to support the proposal given its positive social impacts.
The pool and council have hosted similar family fun events at the pool in the past with Sunday Fundays popular during the drought.
Pool staff joined forces with the team at Anglicare's Georgie's Pantry and the Parkes Shire's former Drought Response Officer Roger Kitson to bring about the event.
After the resignation of the Parkes Aquatic Centre coordinator, the Parkes Pool's leadership model has been transformed to Senior Lifeguards and Manager Facilities, forming the Parkes Pool Senior Leadership Team.
This opportunity has led to professional development of the senior lifeguards into leadership roles.
As part of their growth, each team member has offered a project they would like to conduct during the 2020/2021 pool season.
The Friday Family Fun Night is one of them.
Other projects include succession planning for learn to swim, succession planning for the senior lifeguard team, marketing and film making, hands-on lifeguard scenario training and professional development.
