Header fire
Multiple firefighting crews from the Parkes Shire were called to a header and grass fire on Friday evening.
Parkes Fire and Rescue NSW, along with a number of Rural Fire Service brigades responded to the Triple Zero call in Mandagery at 7.47pm
On arrival firefighters found a header well alight and an area of grass on fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the header while RFS volunteers focused their attention on extinguishing the grass fire.
"Once the header was extinguished and was checked for hot spots, pump 417 returned to station," Parkes Fire and Rescue NSW said.
RFS firefighters remained on scene to continue to monitor the area for any hot spots in the grass.
Other incidents
Parkes Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were kept busy on Thursday and Friday with other incidents.
They attended a motor vehicle accident at 2.20pm on Thursday before helping the SES with an animal rescue at 3.37pm.
On Friday morning they attended a gas leak in Currajong Street.
On January 7, firefighters were called to a premises in Gap Street at 2.59pm following reports of a "burning smell" at the location.
Crews in breathing apparatus checked the area with a thermal imaging camera and found the cause to be a faulty appliance which had tripped a circuit within the building.
January 2 storm supercell
The new Parkes Fire Station in Hill Street unfortunately also fell victim to the severe storm supercell that left a trail of destruction through the town's CBD on January 2.
Like so many homes and businesses whose floors flooded and their roofs and ceilings were damaged, the station too experienced flooding.
"Even Parkes 417 fire station wasn't spared with the station engine bay and back parking flooded," Parkes Fire and Rescue NSW posted on Facebook after the event.
"It was all hands on deck to clean up."
Firefighters also took the opportunity at the time to say a huge thank you to Woolworths Parkes - who was also severely impacted by damage during the storm and had to close early - for donating some barbecue chicken and rolls.
The supermarket also donated food to RFS volunteers after the storm.
