The Art of Resilience Project was designed to give the youth of the Parkes Shire a voice, an opportunity to display their creative talents and a mechanism to assist them in coping with the difficulties they have been facing, in the form of the drought, bushfires and COVID-19.
Cultural Education and Library Services Manager, Kerryn Jones, was proud of what the project meant to the town.
"This fabulous initiative highlighted the importance of the arts in well-being and mental health and provided new and exciting experiences for the youth of the Parkes Shire," said Kerryn.
"It also provided powerful proof that the arts are an important component in supporting well-being, a lifeline for expression and an activity that enhances the human condition."
Mayor of Parkes Shire Cr Ken Keith OAM was quick to praise those involved in the project.
"This project championed the youth of the Parkes Shire, mentored creativity, started conversations around drought and resilience and allowed a diverse range of people across the Parkes Shire to get involved," said Cr Keith.
"The Art of Resilience Project was led by Sean James Cassidy, Kerrie Peden and members of Ub Ubbo Exchange. I would like to extend a massive congratulations and thank you to them, for their contribution and efforts," added Cr Keith.
A total of 130 entries were received across the Parkes Shire, with 24 winners and Highly Commended awardees while 11 more entrants were also awarded a Special Mention.
The winners and highly commended awardees were then involved in producing a documentary sharing their stories behind the artwork they created.
The documentary will be featured in the Art Exhibition 'Revival' in the Coventry Room within the Parkes Library and Cultural Centre until Australia Day or you can see it on Parkes Shire Council's YouTube channel.
