Here's five great camping locations in the Central West region we've put together but be mindful of COVIDSafe rules that might be in place at each camping location.

Carcoar Dam is located on the Belubula River, located east of the historic village of Carcoar.

The dam is situated in an attractive setting, providing an ideal site for many types of outdoor recreation. Water sports such as swimming, power boating, sailing, sail boarding and water skiing can all be enjoyed on the dam.

Fishing is another popular activity and the dam is stocked with golden perch, trout and murray cod.

There is some mobile phone service (depending on the carrier) and dogs are welcome at the campground.

The Carcoar Dam campground, which falls under the control of Blayney Shire Council, has since reopened after the easing of coronavirus restrictions, however, all overnight visitors are required to register their details through the council's website.

Set on the banks of Morong Creek, the Boyd River campground within the Kanangra-Boyd National Park offers a peaceful setting in an open forest.

There's tall snow gums towering above and during the early morning and late afternoon some of their inhabitants - sugar gliders, brush-tail possums and tawny frogmouths - can be seen.

Whether you're heading out for bushwalking, mountain bike riding, have a keen interest in landscape photography, or are just eager for a getaway, this is a great destination.

Some areas of the Kanangra-Boyd National Park park were affected by recent bushfires, with some areas of the park still closed.

The peaceful campground that is the Diggins is located at the mouth of Turon River and it's very popular with 4WD enthusiasts, as a 4WD will be required to access it.

Being located right on the river, it's also great for those who want to enjoy trout fishing or canoeing or just paddling in the water when the weather is hot.

The grassy flats of the riverbank are lined with she-oak, and it's likely to spot kangaroos and wombats hopping around here at dawn and dusk.

Located on the outskirts of Lithgow, there's plenty on offer at the Lake Lyell Recreation Park.

You could throw out the tent on one of the non-powered sites or roll the van in and plug it straight into the power.

Children can play in the park or swim safely in the designated swimming area while the parents prepare lunch under the covered free barbecue area.

While the park is still open, the operators are taking active measures to ensure the facilities, employees and patrons remain safe from the coronavirus.

Located in the Mount Canobolas Conservation Area, the Federal Falls campground is a great place to relax, enjoy the surrounds and explore the scenery.

This is the location of an ancient Indigenous campsite, so be sure to check out the interpretive display to find out more about the Wiradyuri people's connection to the stunning country at Mount Canobolas.
