The week runs from November 15-22 and honours the memory of the 1200 lives lost, and more than 44,000 seriously injured on Australia's roads each year.

During Road Safety week road users are being asked to think about how they can actively protect all those who are vulnerable on the road ahead and to sign an online pledge to not drive distracted, not speed and to never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

National Road Safety Week is organised by the SARAH Group (Safer Australian Roads and Highways) in partnership with Governments and road safety stakeholders.

Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils' Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer, Melanie Suitor, says the Councils' have been supporting the initiative since 2017.

"During National Road Safety Week, yellow ribbons will be displayed all across the country to remember those we have lost on the roads and to remind us to drive safely," says Ms Suitor.

"The trauma caused by road crashes echoes through our community and is felt by so many others - family and friends, work colleagues, community groups, emergency service workers and local communities.

"Parkes and Forbes Shire Councils' fleet vehicles will proudly display yellow ribbons, while Lachlan Shire Council's staff will wear them on their lapels.

"Additionally, our email signatures will display the National Road Safety Week artwork for the week.

"Forbes Town Hall will be lit yellow for the Week along with Memorial Hill and the Sir Henry Parkes statue in Parkes," Ms Suitor says.

The councils are encouraging both staff and residents to sign the online safe driving pledge at www.roadsafetyweek.com.au.

Ms Suitor is urging residents to think about other road users every time they get in their cars.

"This year's theme - drive so others survive - reminds us that we all have a shared responsibility on our roads.

"So I urge you...drive as if your loved ones are on the road ahead."
