Since he retired as a Uniting Church minister though, Mr Robinson was drawn back to creating worlds on the page, and began accompanying his illustrations with storylines.

The Orange retiree is now releasing his third and fourth book in his Grandpa's Farm children's book series. The stories were heavily inspired by both Mr Robinson's own childhood on the family farm near Young and that of his sons'.

Like the main character in his books, Mr Robinson's three sons grew up in the city but used to spend school holidays on the farm, he explained.

"Matt, the boy who is the central character in the book series, is a combination of our three sons," Mr Robinson said.

"Being boys living in the city, school holiday times at 'Grandpa's Farm' were magic times for them.

"The reader is invited to experience what they experienced."

All four books deal with the different seasons on the farm and the various stages of farming and rural life they impact.

Book one, A Spring Day, revolves around shearing, while book two, A Summer's Day, describes the work of grain harvesting and the threat of bush fire.

The books are all written in verse, while the illustrations are inspired by the landscape of the Central West, Mr Robinson said.

"I've been encouraged that many who are familiar with farm life express appreciation of the authenticity of the books," the children's author said.

"The books help them share their experience with their children and grandchildren."

Mr Robinson grew up on a farm near Young NSW and his wife Sharyn comes from Parkes, where they spend quite a bit of time with family.

After working the farm with his father for six years, Mr Robinson moved to the city for education and employment.

He was ordained in 1978 as a Minister of the Uniting Church. For the past two years he has lived in retirement in Orange with his wife.

Books three and four: Grandpa's Farm: An Autumn Day and Grandpa's Farm: A Winters Day will be available in early 2021. They will complete the series.

"It's taken 10 years and lots of encouragement from Sharyn, family, friends and readers of the first two books to produce 'Autumn' and 'Winter'," Mr Robinson said.

"My retirement in Orange has provided the time and space to complete the series."

The first two books in the series are currently available for purchase from the Parkes Visitors Centre and newsXpress in Parkes.

The last two books will similarly be available at this location from January.
