Services Australia has confirmed the reported COVID-19 case in Parkes is a staff member at the Parkes Service Centre on Currajong Street.

On Thursday Services Australia has said the staff member has tested positive and the venue has been closed for a number of days.

"A deep clean has been completed and we're continuing to work with NSW Health, to ensure the safety of customers and our staff.

"We thank the community for their patience while this takes place. We are aiming to reopen on Friday September 4. We'll let the community know if that changes.

"In the meantime, customers can do most of their business online or call their main payment line for urgent matters," says Services Australia.

Things customers can do online include: reporting income, uploading documents, claiming payments or telling us about a change in their circumstances.

EARLIER Wednesday September 2

There has been a reported case of COVID-19 in the Parkes Local Government Area, says Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD).

In a statement released by WNSWLHD, they advised they are investigating the case and undertaking tracing, in order to take the utmost caution for the community.

"Further testing and investigation is under way to verify the diagnosis of COVID-19 and any possible source of the infection. The case is currently in isolation," says the WNSWLHD.

"While the case remains under investigation, the Public Health Unit has contacted all close contacts out of an abundance of caution."

All identified close contacts have been advised to be tested for COVID-19 and have been provided with all the relevant Public Health information; such as to remain in isolation for 14 days.

It is important to note that if you haven't been contacted by the Public Health Unit, you haven't been identified as a close contact of the infected person.

If you have any symptoms, even mild ones, arrange to be tested out of an abundance of caution.

As of 11am Wednesday September 2, there remains 47 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Western NSW Local Health District.
