The voice of our youngest members of our community can be forgotten about during times of crisis.
This competition has shown the inherent wisdom that we all have no matter what the age.
Drought Support Officer Roger Kitson from Neighbourhood Central was very pleased with how the competition went, and the outcomes that will follow.
"I have spoken with local schools and parents about the competition and these discussions showed how beneficial the competition was for Parkes Shire youth and local schools.
"The competition provided a platform for important discussions concerning drought, bush fires and COVID-19.
"Also, the importance of resilience during these events and what resilience means to the youth of Parkes Shire during their own personal experiences," says Roger.
The categories included poetry, drawing and painting, photography and songwriting.
The quality of art work entered into this competition was extremely high and it was obvious that all participants put their heart and soul into their entries.
As a result, it made the judging of this competition extremely difficult with much deliberation required in order to select the winners.
One of the messages which stood out in all the artwork was how important nature is to our youth.
It showed a strong connection and a deep understanding of the importance animals, plants and a healthy environment and how a healthy environment is fundamental to healthy and happy human beings.
In particular, it showed the importance of human connections, social interactions and friendships during COVID-19.
In other arts news
The newly formed Parkes Shire Arts Council has been busy at work despite COVID-19 seeing the cancellation of a number of events.
This doesn't mean they aren't looking towards the future, with other events on the horizon.
The Inaugural Arts Revival Festival, will be running from December 15 until December 20.
The Parkes Potters will be celebrating their 50th anniversary with an exhibition from November 13 to November 15 at the Holy Family School Hall. In exciting news for the club, there are grants the group is looking into with Arts OutWest for the purchase of a $15,500 kiln.
A huge event is also in the works, with Opera in the Park slated to take place in 2022.
