The annual Naggers cup was played, where married or partnered couples get to enjoy each other's company whilst playing golf. Liz Matthews once again sponsored this great event and this year Colleen and Rob Staples were victorious with 42 points ahead of Judy and Bernard McCabe on 37 points.
The Sadie Hawkins trophy was also played where couples who are only golf partnered for the day play together. Lesley Fisher and Brian Hogan Snr were the winners of this with a good 37 points as well.
There were numerous matches played in the Jack Burch and McDermott Cup as well as the grade matchplay championships for the men to get these matches past the preliminary and Round 1 games. Round 2 of Handiskins was also played in conjunction.
The golf for the day was a 4BBB with an individual in conjunction. In the individual stakes sponsored by long-time PGC supporter Byrne Menswear and Worklocker in Parkes there were over 80 starters. There was also the prestigious Fred Cusack Memorial Trophy and the Keith Mill & Keith Cusack Memorial trophy up for grabs.
Cody Hando on 39 points was the Worklocker winner whilst Kieren Deland on a 38 point count-back was the Byrne Menswear runner up. Cody must have been feeling the pressure coming up the last as he managed an out of bounds but still hung on to take the great prize.
Kieren had to beat off both Blake Smith and Jake Hodge on a count-back to pick up the generous prize. Good to see the younger brigade fighting it out for all places.
There was a gap of three points back to the next finishers so once again the course wasn't conquered, and all players are appreciating the good condition it is currently in following further rain and sunny conditions.
