Local newspapers play a unique and essential role in our community supporting a range of events and causes.
We all have a close and trusted relationship with The Champion Post as it continues to play a key role in connecting the Parkes Shire and keeping us all informed about news and issues affecting our area.
The Tennis centre has certainly been a very busy place during the past few months.
Tennis was one of only two sports (with golf) which could continue throughout April and May in NSW because they could potentially comply with the physical distancing rules so the Committee were in constant contact with the State body-TennisNSW almost daily for updated guidelines and protocols to be followed to allow play to continue.
With the online court booking system working a treat, the community were able to get outside and get active in their one hour of allocated exercise. Now that restrictions have eased, the online system is still consistently accessed throughout the week during both day and night.
Competitions: Today is the final day and night of the organised competitions for Term two. A short six week comp was able to be played with six divisions of juniors and ten teams enjoying their three sets on a Tuesday evening. Results will appear next week.
Holiday camp: Head Coach Helen Magill has decided to run a fundraising tennis camp for girls and boys aged from five-12 years on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 7/8/9 from 9am-12noon.
The tennis club canteen would like a coffee machine and a slushie machine for the tennis families and visitors to the Club throughout the year thus some of the coaching team led by Helen are giving their time for free to raise these needed funds.
New girls and boys are most welcome and encouraged to come and give tennis a go. If they don't have a racquet that's okay there's plenty they can borrow at the Club.
Each morning will be a mix of fun games and tennis activities along with some drills and points play for those capable of playing matches with a 15min break in the middle for morning tea.
Registrations are taken online www.parkestennis.com.au and you can come for one day $50, two days $80 or three days $110.
Term three junior tennis: We are excited to be able to offer all junior programs again from Monday, July 20. Term two was restricted to one on one private lessons only so there are more options next term.
All registrations for Term three Junior Tennis are online and will open July second. These are on a first-in basis so plan ahead, access your Active Kids voucher on July 1 and have it ready, and organise friends to book in for the same group day and time. Keep and eye on parkestennis Facebook page for daily updated info.
ANZHotShots: HotShots is a modified program for four years (pre-school) to 14 years working through different stages of development from FMS, Red ball, Orange ball, and the full court Green ball and Yellow ball programs.
HotShots groups run Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays each week between 4pm-6pm.
Players come in a group of a maximum of four for half hour once a week over an eight week program. Cost is $100 which includes a free racquet and t-shirt for any new registrations.
Active Kids Vouchers are redeemable when you book and the second voucher for 2020 will be available from July 1 so get in and access your voucher asap and enter the correct numbers when you book so HotShots will be Free for Term three.
Development squads: Junior development squads in both green ball and yellow ball are an excellent way of getting more time on court working on fitness, footwork, skills and points play. These run on Mondays from 5pm for 90 minutes. Cost is $160 for the eight week program. Bookings limited to first-in and online- www.parkestennis.com.au
