Crews will carry out installation of high intensity LED flashing lights and retro-reflective boom gates between 6am and 6pm this Wednesday, June 17.
ARTC's General Manager Asset Management Brian Green said the upgrade is being carried out to improve safety for light and heavy vehicle users.
"The level crossing at Welcome sees an average of 4000 vehicle movements per day of which nearly 1000 are heavy vehicles," Mr Green said.
"This safety upgrade work will be carried out in a 12-hour shift with changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits in place.
"We thank motorists for their patience as this important safety work is carried out."
Transport for NSW is investing $990,000 into the project being delivered by Wabtec on behalf of the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
Upgrade locations funded by the level crossing improvement program are identified through a riskbased, prioritised ranking approach using the Australian Level Crossing Assessment Model, a review of NSW safety incident data and consultation with road and rail infrastructure managers.
