The day's feature event, the Parkes Cup, to be run over 1600 metres has attracted a field of 12 headed by the Rodney Robb trained A Magic Zariz with in form apprentice Tyler Schiller in the saddle.
Schiller has been in scintillating for this month, registering seven wins to date for the month of May including last weekend's Leeton Cup.
The astute Robb was quick to secure the services of Schiller, who has reduced his claim to 1.5kgs in an attempt to offset the 63kg the handicapper has allotted A Magic Zariz, the winner of 10 of its 37 starts.
Unwanted in the betting at its most recent start the seven-year-old Zariz gelding saluted in the Narromine Diggers Cup over 1300 metres on April 27.
Four of the gelding's victories have come over the 1300 metre trip with just the one win over Sunday's 1600 metres.
Interestingly, Schiller was aboard last start winner Assault'n'Bathory, which is expected to take its place in Sunday's field with Winona Costin in the saddle.
In a benchmark 70 at Canberra on May 6 Schiller took Assault'n'Bathory straight to the lead, clearing out from the rest of the field by five lengths in the middle stages before holding on for a four length win over the same distance as the Cup.
Similar tactics are expected to be employed on Sunday.
The west's leading hoop Greg Ryan has secured the ride on Steamin' for Wellington mentor Michael Mulholland.
At its most recent outing Steamin' was less than three lengths from the winner over 1550 metres at Cantebury on a soft track.
Prior to that he was an excellent fourth in the Wellington Cup in early April.
He has one of the best records over the mile in the field, so an improved performance is on the cards.
Parkes trainer Sharon Jeffries will be represented at the meeting by Flashin, Sarah McIllrick by Leica Stryka to be ridden by Eleanor Webster-Hawes and George Wright junior has both Pullman Brown and Run the Red engaged.
Forbes trainer Denis Bush has accepted with Molasses and Yeas and Nays while Barry Molloy has Caszar accepted for the meeting.
