A GRASS fire that ignited south of Parkes on Tuesday afternoon was brought quickly under control by firefighters.

Crews received a triple-0 call at 3.43pm following reports of a fire that was burning alongside the Newell Highway.
"On arrival crews found a small grass fire along the side of the road," NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews from Parkes said.

"Crews worked swiftly to extinguish the fire."
Crews from the Tichborne RFS brigade along with Parkes police also attended the scene.

At this stage the cause of the fire is unknown.
