Works are underway to upgrade security at Alectown, Gunningbland, Bogan Gate, Trundle and Tullamore landfill sites to provide improved environmental outcomes and prolong the life of the small landfill sites by minimising unauthorised disposal.

The project includes the installation of new fencing, a security lock system, and 24-hour CCTV cameras will help to deal with unauthorised access and the disposal of unauthorised materials at these facilities.
Parkes Shire Waste Facilities Committee Chair, Cr Alan Ward said the improvements will deter people from taking advantage of the facilities.
"Our township landfills are not licenced to accept certain materials under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, such as commercial, industrial and hazardous wastes," he said.
"These security improvements aim to deter people from using the small rural landfill sites to dispose of such materials, which should be taken to the Parkes Waste Facility for processing."
The security improvements will also restrict access to only those households in the landfill's catchment area.
Residents in the Gunningbland and Alectown local catchment area will automatically receive an access key.
Application forms for access to the Bogan Gate, Trundle and Tullamore landfill sites have been sent to residents who do not receive a weekly waste collection service.
Residents who receive a collection service and can justify a need to access the landfill sites can contact Council to apply for an access key, phone 02 6861 2341.
The project is funded under the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment's Landfill Consolidation and Environmental Improvements Grants Program, which helps regional councils address potential liabilities posed by landfill activities, reduce environmental risks, and contribute to the long-term protection of the environment.
