Rumours
I heard a story about our town being invaded by busloads of Chinese from Sydney, our supermarkets stripped bare.

I saw the evidence later that day at Woolworths: not an egg or pack of mince to be had.
I began to wonder about the story.
Next trip to Woolworths I asked a supervisor. I got a 'you fell for that too' look and 'not that I know of!'
I still don't know whether it happened, but I don't know anyone that actually saw it happen.
And the supervisor at Woolworths was unaware of it happening.
So I'm going to assume, because I can find no evidence that it did happen, that it didn't.
It's a bit funny. I feel embarrassed that I believed the story without any critical thought.
It's also potentially dangerous.
There's a salutary lesson here about how rumours can so quickly become "knowledge" with the potential to cause fractures in our community and society at this troubled time.
To the credit of the Champion Post, they reported the facts (bare shelves), not the rumour (the invading busloads).
Could it be that our newspaper employs competent, ethical journalists that check facts before publishing?
And while giving thumbs up, same to the workers at Woolworths and other supermarkets that enable stores to stay open so we can buy food and other essentials.
I notice I so easily forget the physical distancing rules.
That forgetfulness could put those workers in danger. Need to try harder!

Just to clarify a couple of things about Parkes TV.
The temporary Facebook site is up and running, but in terms of live streaming there isn't much to stream yet as most events and functions have been banned over COVID-19.
However there are a number of pre-recorded videos that can be played on demand, going back to when I was overseas and there are some videos suggested by locals contacting me.
We really do need local content so if you have a video about Parkes please contact me. The best way to access Parkes TV is Facebook search type TCOB Parkes TV Parkes TV. That will get you to the site.

Thumbs up
I want to especially acknowledge the posties and courier services who continue to deliver our mail and deliveries with a smile on their face in these difficult times. I especially acknowledge the gentleman postie who delivers around the Bollinger Street area.
