Our next shoot is on Saturday, March 21 and will be similar to above. Our last shoot for the reporting period which ends on March 31.

At last week's shoot 19 shooters attended the Deep Lead Shooting complex. They shot at ordinary targets at both 25 and 50 meters for a maximum of 500 points.

Hello Bowlers

On Thursday night we had eight bowlers. Winners were Peter Job and Jeff Wyatt.

As there were the zone mixed pairs played on Saturday there weren't any bowls played.

Congratulations to Marie Grant and Tom Furey for winning this event and progressing to the next stage.

On Sunday to a huge crowd saw Tony Latter and Mick Furney played the major singles.

Tony lead early seven to three, but after some titanic ends, Mick won 31 to 19.

As you should be aware NSW bowls have suspended all bowls with the COVID-19 problem.

That means that pennants and all club games, and tournaments cannot proceed until all further notice.

It is hoped that pennants will have a double round on April 4-5 to catch up.

Friday night happy hour 4.30pm to 6.30pm as usual.

Ah, 'twas a grand St Patrick's Day last Tuesday!

Bonny conditions prevailed.

Fourteen social bowlers out on the emerald green enjoying their games and dreaming of that pint of Guinness to be quaffed after the game!A bit of blarney from VP Maureen, and a game of spider to kick off.

Lynn Ryan bowled right into the spider's arms and won the pot of gold.

Julie Green, Valmai Westcott and Lorraine Baker couldn't find a four-leaf clover anywhere and went down to Kay Craft, Lynn Ryan and Hilda O'Pherson!

Fran Dixon and Maureen Miller got up to a bit of shenanigans defeating Salva Harris and Lea Orr by too many!

Fine shots galore in the match between Carol Reed and Maureen Baillie and Frances Charlton and Kate Keogh, with each team using all their luck to result in a draw.

Following directives from Women's Bowls NSW and Bowls NSW all future bowls events are suspended for an indefinite period, effective immediately March 17, 2020.

This relates to all association events, competition events, club events and tournaments and includes social bowls events.

The local club will be still open during normal hours to enjoy a drink and Friday night meals and raffles.

Saturday saw 87 starters for the Quick Shine Carwash two person event. Owner Ben McNaughton put on a great day with longest drives, lucky card draws and fantastic prizes and give aways.

The mens winners on the day were Cody Hando and Jake Hodge, while the women's event was taken out by Lyn Davison and Leone Stevenson - all winners collected $100 carwash vouchers each.

Troy Thomson collected the cash on the Money hole with a great shot to 170cms, it's a pity his birdie putt wasn't as good, however a great par was achieved. Sue Holman took out the womens longest drive and Dave Boom Time Chambers showed his form with taking out the mens longest drive.

This week will see the Corner Boys sponsor an 18hole Stableford event with the much sought after Terry Sheridan Memorial Trophy up for grabs and the ladies will also play a 18 hole Stableford sponsored by SM Built.

A reminder to members that the draws for the Matchplay events, McDermott Cup and Jack Burch are on the notice boards with all first round games due to be played by the end of April.

Parkes Division 2 Pennants Winners

The Parkes division 2 Pennants team has successfully defended its title in the 2020 Central West District Golf Associations competition. Competing against nine other towns including major centres, Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange the Parkes Club continues to punch above its weight with three Pennants histories over the last four years.

The Division 2 side was capably led by Captain Joe Van Opynen who was looking to remain undefeated for two entire seasons, however the unthinkable occurred and Joe was beaten in his match last Sunday, but this was still a fantastic effort, Riall Harrison also suffered his first loss of the year against a red hot opponent , Tim Burke stepped up to cover John Greens absence ( he was away attending a One Direction concert) and achieve a commanding victory 4&6 and Luke Clarke bounced back to form with a 6&4 demolition of his opponent. This left Brendan Chambers to secure the victory and he needed to dig deep to recover from a deficit of three holes with four to play - Chambo won three holes in a row to draw level on the last hole and narrowly missed a putt on the 18th green to win the match, which saw both players head to a 19th hole to decide the champions - which obviously Brendan did to secure an amazing individual and team victory.

Hugh Bowman, rated by some as the best jockey in the world, was a big attraction when riding at the Coonamble meeting and to the delight of his many fans he booted home a winner, the Mack Griffith, Mudgee trained Royal Monarch in the 1400 metres Showcase Maiden Plate.

Given a charmed run close to the leaders, Royal Monarch ( $3.50 ) took control in the straight and won by over three lengths from Mudgegonga ( Michael Heagney,$14 ) and Now Or Never ( Grant Buckley, $3.10 favourite ).

Hugh Bowman later stated he had ridden at many good tracks around the world and Coonamble was up there with the best of them.

Overall, the Championship day was a tremendous success and a well deserved reward for the untiring work from the Coonamble Jockey Club committee to host the prestigious event.

Although the majority of starters at the Broken Hill St Pats meeting on Saturday came from stables in Victoria and South Australia there was success for jockeys and trainers from central and western New South Wales.

Raced by the Cobar Camels syndicate and trained at Cobar by Wayne Prisk, Vonnida ( $6 ) won the 1000 metres Benchmark 45 Handicap with Gulgong jockey Jake Pracey-Holmes in the saddle.

Vonnida has now recorded eight wins and 17 placings from 68 starts and accumulated over $78.000 prizemoney.

Trainer Garry Bignell and apprentice Wendy Peel, both from Nyngan, combined to win the 1400 metres BM 58 Handicap with Another Plan ( $4 )

Nyngan was also represented by trainer Rodney Robb who had second placings with Mango Liston and Star Express.

Cranbourne based Rhonda Mangan picked up a late ride when the jockey booked for Fulton Street in the $25,000 Broken Hill Outback Cup failed to arrive at the meeting.

From the Adelaide stables of David Jolly, Fulton Street won the 1600 metres Cup by over five lengths from Cooee March ( Jake Pracey-Holmes, $3.60 ) and Easy Sheriff ( Maddison Lloyd, $6 ).

Rhonda Mangan travels long distances from Victoria to get rides and is a regular at Cobar and other western area meetings when riding for trainer Wayne Prisk.

The most recent win for Rhonda Mangan prior to Broken Hill was on Mindy, inJanuary, at King Island in Bass Strait, between Tasmania and Victoria.

Undoubted highlight of the Broken Hill meeting was the 5 win haul by Swan Hill trainer Nathan Hobson and apprentice Madison Lloyd with Highway To Success ( $2.20 ), Duke Dictator ( $3.20 ), Ask The Sheriff ( $4.60 ), All Paid ( $3 ) and Tempers Flare ( $2.50 ).

Scheduled race meetings this week are the Trangie Gold Cup ( Saturday ) and Orange ( TAB ) on Sunday.
