It was a great turnout of 85 players and our lady golfers were back in full swing for season 2020 after being rained out on Wednesday.
Whilst the weather conditions were superb for good golf, the course was still playing long after the much-welcomed soaking through the week, but our golfers managed some stunning scores both in nett and scratch.
Our A grade men's winner was Rob Hey with a great 74 off the stick.
Rob has been in consistent form for a long period now. Ron Hetherington fired a great 66 nett score to win the A grade handicap.
No doubt that handicap is about to change.
The B grade scratch and nett was won by Cody Hando with very good scores of 84 scratch and 68 nett.
The C grade titles for March were won by Finne Latu with an 84 scratch and a very hot 64 nett.
Captain David will be logging into the computer with this score.
The Wally Norman Memorial Vets Medal was won by David Stevenson on 70 nett, but it needed a count-back.
The Griffins Leading Edge Putting Competition was also taken out by David Stevenson, so his confidence will be at a peak.
The nearest the pin winner for the tough sixth hole this week was Garry Phipps who hit a nice hybrid to 1.28m's of the pin.
This shot was posted mid-morning but managed to hang on all day.
The ball sweep cut out at a one over par 72, very competitive this week again. The good news was that there were four new golfers in the top eight ball winners, so well done.
The Grade Matchplay Championships, Burch and McDermott Cup draws will be completed this week and posted on the inside board for the start of these competitions.
On Sunday our club played two games in the 2020 CWDGA pennants competition at Wentworth GC in Orange.
This week's games will be played at Duntryleague in Orange.
Our Division 1 side, albeit understrength, struggled strongly against the Dubbo side.
We unfortunately didn't take a match off the Dubbo boys, but it was good experience for Rod Kiley, Jake Hodge and David Stevenson lining up with big guns and Phil Barnard and Rob Hey playing well in their encounters as we expect.
The side has one remaining game against Cowra and they will not be happy unless they win this match to close out their pennant series.
The Division 2 side was playing their semi-final against a strong and determined team from Wellington.
With every club trying to take the scalp of last year's winners, the Parkes side has been solid in their playing squad and slowly building toward the final again.
This week they had a real tussle but came away with a 3-2 win. John Green and Joe Van Opynen having comparatively easy wins, if that is possible in matchplay, and Riall Harrison battling to the end to win his match.
The golfing community and Parkes GC members say well done boys and wish the team the best of luck as they take on the strong Mudgee combination at the testing Duntryleague layout this week.
The team for the final is - Brendan Chambers, Riall Harrison, Luke Clarke, John Green and Joe Van Opynen. We are looking forward to the 2020 Pennant sitting proudly beside the 2019 one next week.
This week is the 18 Hole two person Aggregate Stableford with regular Sponsor - QUICK SHINE CAR WASH.
There will be a Long Drive Competition on 16th, Lucky Door Prize at Presentation, Free Sausage Sizzle and Drink at Halfway House, and Free Nibbles in Clubhouse after golf.
So, come and enjoy the day with sponsor Ben and his crew.
On Sunday the green's renovations will commence with completion expected Monday.
The greens will take a few weeks to bed down from this work, so your patience is appreciated for this necessary work.
