Duty Commander, Inspector Steve Knight said he is very pleased with the progress of the new station.
It is going to provide up-to-the-minute facilities for our male and female firefighters
- Inspector Steve Knight
"It is going to be able to provide up-to-the-minute facilities for our male and female firefighters here in Parkes," he said.
The groundwork started on the site, which faces Hill Street and is located directly behind the existing fire station in Court Street, in August last year.
The purchase of the land was announced in March 2017 by the then Minister for Police and the Minister for Emergency Services, Troy Grant.
"This site gives the local firies the best optimum location to deploy across their area with their response times," he said at the time.
Parkes Fire and Rescue NSW members and the Zone Management Team had been planning for a more modern and larger building for more than a decade.
This year that dream will become a reality.
Inspector Knight said the design of the new station is one FRNSW chose for its functionality.
"It enables us to have clean and dirty areas which is part of our Fire and Rescue NSW Plus Plan to minimise our exposure to carcinogens," he said.
"Keeping those areas separate makes it easier to minimise the effects of carcinogens on our people."
Parkes' 15 firefighters won't know themselves in the new state-of-the-art station.
"There will be so much more space," Inspector Knight said.
"There will be a bigger engine bay where they will keep their uniforms away from their living area. More showers, more toilets, a training room and a gym, it will be very refreshing with more room to move."
