LADIES SOCIAL COMP-
Twelve ladies arrived at the courts last Monday unsure what to expect and all left having played 3 sets of doubles with plenty of laughs and much to practise up on. Needless to say none of the ladies have been spotted on court over the next 7 days so were clearly either satisfied with their performances or were feeling the effects of chasing down balls and trying to serve with too much vigour to allow their bodies enough recovery time before Round 2.
Well done to all the ladies and special mention to Lyndal Matthews and Leanne wright along with Sheridan Kirk and Pauline Nicholson who were the victors in round 1 winning all 3 sets played.
NIGHT COMP-
After a wet start to the night competition round 2 got underway last week and no doubt Wednesday morning had some players questioning their decision to get back into tennis again. Almost certainly the ice, dencorub and/or a combination of both was required to get the muscles into action and get moving for work the day after. Twas great to see The Blues team in action- Simon Ellis talked mates Ian Ward and Grant Dunn into taking to the court after having not played comp tennis for a few years and although a little worse for wear they thoroughly enjoyed their match against Darren Fishers Dreamteam. The Blues won 4 sets to 2.
Jordo Grosvenor shoed he can still hit the ball okay even if a little rusty looking with the technique. His Team Thiem took on Wasted Potential and although competitive it was Brenden Weekes who led his merry men to a 6 set victory.
Smash Hits, Pints, Arndell's Aces and T all scored relatively comfortable wins while the match of the round was between Bogan Gate Bandits and Full Metal Racquet. Wade McKinnon of Full Metal fame made it quite clear that his efforts of winning all 3 sets didn't go unnoticed even though this still didn't get his team over the line with the Bandits winning on a games countback after Andrew McPherson and Ben Rix blitzed Chris and partner Stu Taylor 6/0 to score a 5 game victory.
LACHLAN TRIALS-
Monday saw the Lachlan PSSA Trials with 25 girls and boys from Parkes and Forbes trialling for places in the Lachlan team to contest the Western trials to be held in Parkes in March.
Ella MColl, Liliani Latu and Harry Yelland were successful from Parkes Public while Parkes East had Grace Dunford, Tom Rix and Henry Kross get through.
All will be trying to get plenty more practise in during the next few weeks.
CENTRAL WEST TEAMS-
Congratulations to Faith Clarke who was successful in gaining selection in the Central West 12 and under team after trials at Bathurst last weekend. Faith will now travel to Cessnock in March for the Jan O'Neill NSW Teams Championships. Poppy Fisher, Mitchell Arndell and Hayden Arndell also trailled but didn't make it on this occasion.
BATHURST JDS-
Parkes players travelled to Bathurst last Sunday for their JDS and the first of the Central West series for 2020. Ella McColl had a great start to the year taking out the 12 and under girls singles. Faith Clarke backed up her great Saturday with a 3rd place finish in the 14 and under event while Gabe Goodrick made the semi finals of the 14s boys. Mitchell Arndell and Ethan Hunt also contested the 14s and found the tennis strong and challenging for the day which will help them in their junior development this year.
Hayden Arndell competed hard in the 12s boys and will have a good year ahead of him.
POLDING TRIALS-
Hayden Arndell made the long trek to Lismore late last week for the Polding catholic schools tennis trials. Hayden made it through to the final 8 after some excellent matches in the mornings play. He was then unfortunately eliminated. This was a fine effort considering Hayden is in Year 5 and with some more tournament experience throughout this year will certainly be in a better place to contest for a top 5 finish in 2021.
JUNIOR COMP-
Round 1 of junior comp was played last Tuesday and nice to see some good matches across the 7 divisions.
The singles and doubles have 2 divisions this term named Federers and Nadals. Federers has most of the more experienced players who also play in some JDS tournaments while the Nadals division is more about development and being social. In Federers Lachie Unger and Hayden Arndell had a great match against Faith Clarke and Tia Dunn. The boys won all 3 sets but had to work extra hard to do so.
Mitch Unger and Ella McColl might be the dark horses this term when they easily accounted for Marcus Moss and Xander Macgregor 3/0.
Nadals division saw some close matches with Sam Rivett and Mitch Wirth defeating Charlie Seymour and Kelsey Mann 16 games to 14. Tom Rix teamed with Sam Westcott and they won all 3 sets agaist Nate Harrison and Jett Johnstone. Sam and Jett had a long singles set with Sam eventually winning in a tiebreaker.
RED DIV-
Sienna Piyatissa has been getting some extra practise in and is rallying very well. She defeated Lachie Orr 4/2.Charlie McColl had a nice start to his comp tennis with a 4/1 scoreline against Tom Wilkinson while Heath Mulligan showed his experience of previously playing comp when he played his good friend Jackson adam and won 7 games to 1.
ORANGE DIV 1-
Elena Glastonbury and Anna Orr had a good match with Elena just scoring a close 3/1 win while Sienna Hunt and kate Forbes played lots of deuces in their match which went in Sienna's favour 2/1.
Charlotte Wilson is looking for a promotion to the Green court next term so is on a mission this term. She started well with a 5/2 win over newcomer Taj Harrison.
ORANGE DIV 2-
Cooper Jones is off to a flyer winning all 7 games against Adam Smede last week.
Charlie Rix and Daisy Rice played a close match with Charlie just winning 2/1 while Adelaide Terry was on fire after a week of training when she accounted for lachie Macgregor 5/1.
Great to see Isaac Lennox back in comp tennis and he scored a first up 3/2 win over Anna Davis.
GREEN STOSURS DIV-
Hannah Terry was inspired from her trip to the Australian Open and played very well to defeat Elizabeth Angmai 7/2. Ashley Terry also scored a win to make it 3 from 3 in the Terry household last week when she defeated newcomer Ashlee Trim 4/1.
GREEN BARTYS DIV-
Jack Greenland is chipping away and continuing to improve his tennis and last week scored a 3/1 win over Savannah Latu. Savannah did well considering it was her first match on the full court. Sam Riley played well to defeat PJ McPherson 6/2 in their match while Declan Quade and Tarlei Glastonbury scored the only draw of the week.
FORBES JDS-
The Forbes JDS is coming up on March 8th. This is a good opportunity to play some matches against other girls and boys of the same age from across the Central West region. 10 and under use green balls while 12s through to 18s use yellow balls. All ages divisions are singles only and round robin. Entries close online 5pm the Wednesday prior to the tournament. Google Central West Tennis.
