Community feedback has shaped key changes to the design of the new Parkes Newell Highway bypass, with the project to now include a road bridge at Victoria Street.

Plans initially included a foot bridge over the Newell Highway for cyclists and pedestrians only, but the new changes have made way for light vehicles and school buses as well now.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development and Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said the changes were in response to feedback during the community consultation period.

More than 100 people made formal submissions about the project, the majority concerned with the local traffic impacts between Victoria Street and Back Trundle Road, as well as potential economic impacts to the town.

"The new Parkes bypass will be a game changer for the region, reducing travel times, removing traffic from the centre of town and increasing safety," Mr McCormack said in a statement on Friday.

Plans will still incorporate signage at the Condobolin Road roundabout to encourage motorists to stop in and see all that the town has to offer.

"We want to make sure travellers still visit the town centre and spend money in local shops and cafés," Mr McCormack said.

"Once complete, the Parkes bypass will reduce travel time by up to 10 minutes compared to the existing route through town and increase safety by removing more than 1200 trucks a day from local streets."

NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said interested community members could view the submissions report on the Review of Environmental Factors for the project.

"The release of the submissions report is a major milestone for the project and the project team will now move into detailed design for the bypass," he said.

"Once a detailed design is determined, the project team will call for tenders to build the bypass, with shovels expected to hit the ground by mid-2021."

The concept design for the bypass was presented to the community in July and August 2019.
