POLICE are appealing for public assistance after a man was stabbed and two vehicles stolen in the Central West.

On Saturday, February 8, a leased white Hyundai i30 hatchback was stolen in Bathurst.

At 5.20am on Wednesday, the Hyundai was used to drive into the doors of a service station in Elsham Drive, Orange; however, the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene empty-handed.

Then, at 5.45am on Wednesday, three males forced their way into a shed in Rossi Drive, Clifton Grove, and threatened the sole occupant, a 37-year-old man.

The males then stabbed the man before stealing his Holden Commodore and driving from the scene.

The 37-year-old man was taken to Orange Hospital, suffering stab wounds to his back, torso and hand, and remains in a stable condition.

Officers from Central West Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, the Holden Commodore was spotted travelling on The Escort Way, about 20 kilometres west of Orange, just after 7am on Wednesday.

A police pursuit was commenced; however, it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
