Who could believe that the recent rains interfered with day one scheduling but no one seems to be too inconvenienced but enjoyed the lovely downfall over the weekend. The Lachlan PSSA trials which were to be held yesterday have been postponed until next Monday, February 17.

Some 25 girls and boys from throughout the district will be trialling to make the Lachlan Team to advance to the Western trials in Parkes in March. Another week of practise will be welcome for the Parkes juniors.
Meanwhile the Polding (Catholic) primary school trials which were to be held in Lismore last Friday were also postponed due to the deluge along the Northern NSW Coastline. Hayden Arndell and Poppy Fisher will enjoy the extra time on court as well before they head north.
ANZHotShots: ANZHotShots got underway yesterday and a reminder to parents that HotShots will be on even if it is raining. There hasn't been a real need to advise of such over the past year or so. There are a few spaces on Thursdays and Fridays, limited places on Mondays while Tuesdays are fully booked.
HotShots is a great little program for four-12 year olds and is played on modified courts with smaller racquets and slower moving balls relevant to the child's ability level to give the young girls and boys an opportunity to be able to serve and rally from the start.
The kids come in groups of no more than four for half hour so plenty of personalised attention is ensured. Active Kids Vouchers are accepted which is a great opportunity to play HotShots for FREE. For further information SMS Helen on 0407 253 888 or email helenmagill@bigpond.com.
Teen Girls Tennis: Ash Barty had a great Summer of Tennis and her tag is #playforyou so in term one Parkes Tennis are encouraging all of our teenage girls to get outside, get active and enjoy social sporting interaction. Research and evidence shows that instead of running towards sport and the multitude of physical, social and emotional benefits it brings, our teenage girls are walking away.
We know taking a break from the stresses of study, and the screens, is vital for everyone's wellbeing so there's many benefits for joining the Girls Only Tennis Program for 12 years-16 years olds. They can belong in an environment and culture that is inviting, friendly and makes them feel comfortable.
It's non-competitive, stress-free, fun and social and offers everyone activities both on and off-court with the aim to give the girls an opportunity for social interaction, improve their self confidence and enjoy some great positive tennis and life experiences.
These girls may have come through the HotShots program a few years ago then dropped out, played at school sport or wanted to play and didn't have the chance to. Wednesdays 5.30-7pm. It will run for eight weeks from February 12 and the cost is $150. Great chance to use your Active Kids Vouchers. Can't find their racquet or it looks too small now, no worries there'll be racquets to borrow. Any girls who would like to be involved in this group please contact Helen.
Junior Competition: The junior comp will commence on Tuesday February 18th. It will be half hour singles only for all divisions except the yellow ball which will be pairs playing one set of singles and 1 set of doubles each week.
Divisions will include red ball on a red size court, orange ball and green ball on appropriate sized courts and the yellow ball div for more accomplished players. Yellow ball singles and doubles division are asked to find their own partner but if they cannot then they may be paired with someone if available.
We will also offer a full comp card payment system this term with the purchase of a square reader as we understand many people do not carry cash.
Online registrations will close tomorrow(Wednesday) but if you would like to be part of junior tennis this term then contact helenmagill@parkestennis.com.au
Night Competition: The McFarlane Family Memorial Summer Night Comp will commence tonight. A capacity 16 teams have once again entered and after watching plenty of tennis either live or on television over the Summer, there will no doubt be an array of big serves, power hitting forehands and tweeners on display. All draws are available online at www.parkestennis.com.au.
Ladies Social Night Competition: There has been some renewed interest in a Ladies Social Doubles Competition this term so if any ladies are interested and there are enough numbers it will be on Monday evenings commencing February 17th.
Start time is 7pm and finish at approximately 8.30pm-9pm depending on the length of rallies and the time spent chatting. Players will play three or four sets of doubles each week. Cost is $10 per person.
Standard is not required. Whether you once played in your youth, thought about playing, watched it on tv and think you can play or never played, it doesn't really matter it's just about having some exercise and social interaction.
You can even borrow a racquet if you can't find yours or it has too many cobwebs to dust off. The comp will run for eight weeks and if you can't commit to every week you can put your name in as a reserve to play when called upon.
Names need to be in to Helen by this Friday at the latest to organise the draw etc.
Book a Court: The new online court booking system has been very well received. Numbers of people using the facility has increased since the updated booking platform has been fully integrated. Visit the website parkestennis.com.au.
Social Tennis: Saturday evenings from 6.30pm is Social Tennis where anyone can come and have a hit and enjoy some social doubles play. All Welcome. There is also Ladies social tennis on Tuesday mornings from 8.30am-11am.
Open Court Sessions: People may have seen all the ads on TV or on the Socials throughout the Summer with regards to a fun Tennis Australia program to encourage people to get out and play tennis.
Parkes will join in the craze of 'Get Your Racquet On' and combine this with our very popular Stay'n'Play Family Social evenings on Friday, February 21 and then fortnightly for the remainder of term one so put these dates in your diary to bring the whole family along and enjoy spending time on court with your friends and family. March 6, March 20, April 3.
A BBQ tea and sweets included. $10 for Adults and Kids Under 16 Free. To register go to play.tennis.com.au
Condolences: Our hearts are heavy around the community dealing with the devastating loss of the beautiful Kerry Yelland. Life can be so illogical at times. Parkes Tennis sends our sincere condolences to Pete and the Yelland and McMahon families who have been involved in tennis over the years in Manildra and Parkes.
Kerry was often around the tennis courts with her boys; whether it was watching Harry or Sam at their lessons or competitions or walking with them with George in tow while they were zooming by on their bikes around Woody Oval.
Her kindness, her care and her affection was evident to all as a volunteer at school and as a devoted mum, and may everyone who knew Kerry be left with a trail of beautiful memories.
