The ATP Cup in Sydney started off the NSW campaign and it was great to see representation from Parkes with six ball kids, two coaches and one SHEroe in attendance at special events.
Club Treasurer Brendon Hunt and Secretary Sharon Hunt were fortunate to be invited by TennisNSW to spend a day in the Corporate Lounge to say thank you for all they have done for Parkes Tennis in 2019.
Ball kids Abbey Kennedy, Maddy McCormick, Gabe Goodrick, Mitch Unger, Joseph Tanswell and Ethan Hunt thoroughly enjoyed their week-long experience and a special report is being compiled to hear what they actually thought first-hand.
Ben Evans and Jake Magill were invited as part of the Central West Next Gen Coaches to the Coaches Conference.
Sharon Hunt is a Tennis NSW SHEroe and part of a growing 'army' of female volunteers across NSW. Sharon spent two days with 27 other females including coaches, teachers, mums and future leaders with SHEroes Ambassador Judy Murray learning more about recruiting volunteers, easy activities to engage and competition formats.
Holiday Camp
What better way for kids to spend their mornings this week than at a tennis camp.
It's been more than 25 years since a holiday program has been on so we are excited to be able to offer tennis to kids four years-12 years in these holidays.
There will be plenty of tennis along with other multi sport activities. If you don't have a racquet that's ok, you can borrow one.
Starting January 22 from 9am-12noon and you can register your child for one, two or all three days.
Go to www.parkestennis.com.au for more details or email phoebe@parkestennis.com.au.
Junior Tennis
Registrations for all junior tennis programs for term one will open on January 25 for one week. All programs will commence from Monday, February 10.
Hotshots: ANZHotShots for girls and boys aged from four years to 12 years will be on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays in term one. Mondays groups will be limited while Thursday and Friday will have more options available.
Squads: There will be an Orange and Green ball development squad and a Yellow ball development squad for those players in HotShots who come during the week and want to spend more time practising and may want to play in some of the Junior Development Series events. These squads will consist of 20-30mins of fitness, 30mins of drills and 30mins of points and match play each week. There will also be an invite only performance squad for those players who are keen to do some travelling and play in tournaments.
Girls Social Group: In term one there will also be the opportunity for a Girls Only Social Group where girls can come for an hour and enjoy some exercise, some hitting drills as well as fun competitive and non competitive games. This will be open for girls aged 11 years+ and will run for six weeks.
Junior comp
Junior Comp will commence Tuesday, February 18. There will be singles division for half hour for red, orange and green ball players while yellow ball players have the option to play both singles and doubles.
Entries open online on January 25.
We strongly encourage girls and boys who are involved in Red ball and Orange ball hotshots to consider junior comp so they can put their learning into practise.
We witness the children who do play comp as well as their HotShots lesson improve at a much faster rate and understand their learning practises.
Senior comp
The Tuesday night senior comp will commence on February 11. Teams are 3 players of any combination with all players playing 1 set of singles and 2 sets of doubles each week.
Players are ranked 1, 2 and 3 and the standard is roughly based around the following criteria:
Line 1 - Competent and has dreamt of playing on the big stage but sadly lacked appropriate actual skill set.
Line 2 - Used to be competent but still rallies okay when ball is a few steps away and often frustrated with lack of footwork speed or consistency.
Line 3 - Social hacker who enjoys casual banter and tries hard to replicate technique and strokes of players witnessed on television(or if lucky enough live) over the summer.
Matches start at 7pm each week.
Please note - Entries open from January 25. Due to the unavailability of a suitable TennisNSW contractor to upgrade the lights which were damaged in December it will be the first 12 teams entered for the Term 1 competition.
