At 4.16pm NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews received a triple-0 call that a lighting storm had started a new fire east of Forbes.
"The crew arrived to find a large tree had been hit by lightning and ignited," Forbes RFS said.
"While on scene we were notified by a member of public to a second tree fire.
"A specialist RFS chainsaw crew was called in to deal with the trees.
"Thankfully after both trees were dropped we had a heavy rain storm pass through."
Meanwhile, Bureau of Meteorology data shows 14 millimeters of rain was recorded in Forbes during Thursday afternoon's storm.
