Especially for Parkes UnitingCare and Parkes Uniting Church members, who on Tuesday were assembling and packing a mountain of gifts in the Parkes Uniting Church hall, collected from their combined annual Christmas Appeal with Target.
This year Parkes UnitingCare coordinator Joan Mill said they are catering for more than 260 children from about 100 families.
"Considering it has been such a difficult year with drought and hardship, it is understandable the giving was down considerably through all Target stores this year," Joan said.
"A big, big thank you to all the generous people in the community who donated at Parkes Target to bring a little joy to the less fortunate."
Parkes UnitingCare would also like to thank the Parkes Evening View Club, Parkes Can Assist, St Vincent de Paul Society in Parkes and Lakembla in Sydney, Selina's Will of Courage Foundation (Selina Win Pe is a survivor of the Lindt Cafe Siege in Martin Place in December 2014) and Mosman Council, and Anglicare - Beecroft Anglican Church.
"A thumbs up to all," Joan said.
UnitingCare Australia is one of the largest providers of community services in Australia, providing services to more than two million Australians each year.
Target and UnitingCare have been in partnership since 1992.
Thanks to the generosity of the Australian community, the Target UnitingCare Christmas Appeal has collected more than 2.1 million gifts in the last 25 years, and raised more than $2 million in the last two years.
The Target UnitingCare Christmas Appeal is launched in all Target stores, including Parkes, in early November each year and aims to make Christmas more special for the thousands of Australians who, for various reasons, are unable to celebrate Christmas.
