NIGHT COMP
The final round of night comp was conducted last week in steamy conditions. Mixed Lollies were somewhat hampered with regulars Paul Dunford and Matt Burkitt unavailable due to school presentation events. Adam Parker and Scott Knights subbed in along with team Captain Stacey Townsend but although they busted themselves, they couldn't break the unbeaten run of Arndell's Aces with Angus Arndell, Javier and Mitch Arndell once again displaying their consistent performance on grand finals night. Three sets went down to the wire 6/5 but Arndell's Team won all 3 to secure an overall 5 sets to 1 victory.
Pints finished in 3rd place defeating Wasted Potential 5 sets to 1.
The next senior comp will commence on Tuesday, February 11. Three in a team playing 2 sets of doubles and 1 set of singles each week. Commencing at 7pm and usually done by 9pm with a couple of refreshments afterwards. The comp will run through to Easter.
Registrations will be open online from January 25.
ANZ HOTSHOTS
All HotShots and squads have now wrapped up for 2019. It has been a huge year with a recent audit by TennisNSW on our Tennis Centre showing an amazing 2564 annual visits per court by players under 18yrs. With accessibility at 92 per cent and community benefit at 100 per cent, Parkes Tennis continues to play its role in physical activity for young people throughout the Parkes Shire.
ANZ HotShots is proving invaluable to young girls and boys getting them active and starting their sporting journey from 4yrs. HotShots will continue to run in 2020 with registrations opening January 25.
HOLIDAY CAMP
For the first time in more than 25 years there will be a Junior Tennis Holiday Camp held at the tennis centre. Phoebe Potts is organising a camp January 22, 23, 24. This will be for girls and boys aged from 4yrs to 12yrs and 9am-12noon each day. You can sign up for 1 day, 2 days or all 3 days with fees from $40. The camp will consist of tennis and multisport games and will be a lot of fun. For existing players or anyone who would like to try tennis or are keen to be outside and active for a few hours. Racquets can be borrowed too which is great. Places are limited and registrations are online through parkestennis website. Enquiries email -phoebe@parkestennis.com.au
PARKES CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL
Well done to Parkes Action Club on the conduct of a fabulous Christmas parade and carnival in Cooke Park on Friday. The tennis club was excited to be part of this event for the first time and the speed serve activation including the opportunity for a lucky participant to win 4 tickets to the ATP Cup in Sydney in January was a huge success.
The line for the speed serve was constant through the 5 hrs in action and it was Brenden Weekes who finished the night with a cracking serve of 150km/hr to take the spoils. Leanne Miles served one down at 120km which was the fastest for females.
The highly anticipated draw for the ATP Cup tickets was held after the conclusion and drawn by Mr Rick Twardy. Anna Davis was the recipient and was super excited hearing the news. Anna will head to Sydney early January to enjoy all the action. Anyone in Sydney between January 3-12 should get out to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre and watch some scintillating team tennis from the best male players in the world.
BOOK A COURT
The online court booking system has been working well since its completion early October. Simply go online www.parkestennis.com.au and book a court by following the link. You do need to book at least 15 minutes prior to accessing the court so the Tennis Australia software can feed through the system. There are no excuses not to get out during the summer months either during the day or at night time and have a hit. Cost for hiring a court is $15/hr during the day and $20/hr for night time usage. Previously the fees were $14 for non-members and $10 for members, although we appreciate these fees were not always enforced so the new fees cover the extra charges of admin and software. Once the system has been in place and fully functional the Tennis Club will look to implement further discounted offers to members other than their personal insurance they currently receive.
