Year 6 Eglinton Public School student Charlotte Rochester has made skirts and scrunchies out of old recycled motel sheets, to raise money for Trundle Public School.

She heard about the problems students are facing at Trundle through her mother and was keen to do something to help out the drought-stricken community.

And she's gone through a long process of cutting, dyeing, washing, drying and then heat-setting her creations for the end product.

While her mum believes she's created about 60 skirts and scrunchies, Charlotte thinks "it's too many to count".

She was selling her skirts and scrunchies at the Macquarie Riverside Markets at Berry Park on Saturday, with her proceeds going to the Macquarie Lions Club, who will then donate the money to the Trundle Lions Club, who will then donate the money to Trundle Public School.
