Jake Magill and Ben Evans were recently part of a successful NSWCHS State Carnival campaign.
They played as the Number one and two players in the Western Open Boys tennis team which finished equal to their best efforts of fourth place behind Sydney North, North Coast and Hunter.
Both boys won nine of their 12 matches during the week against some very tough opponents from 5 other regional areas and four metropolitan regions.
Ben was acknowledged for his six years of service to Western CHS and also honoured with the Western Medal for his outstanding performances throughout the carnival.
Jake and Ben have been exemplary Western representatives throughout both primary and high school. They've represented Parkes High, Western and NSW and have been outstanding role models for those around them.
They are part of the Coaching team locally and regionally both having completed their Community Coaching Course last year and always encourage their groups to give best efforts but more importantly be competent sportspeople who show humility and integrity.
Well Done Boys. Parkes Tennis Community is very proud to have had you grow up in their environment. Both boys are about to start their HSC exams.
Open Girls CHS Tennis
Parkes had five girls representing Western in the recent CHS Open Girls Carnival held at Inverell.
Phoebe Potts, Hannah Potts, Maddy McCormick, Holly McColl and Ellen Dolbel were fine representatives for Western and found this years carnival a real challenge.
The girls played on a combination of slow clay courts and synthetic grass and all struggled on the slow pace of the clay.
Their patience was tested throughout the week and despite going down to even sets and a count-back on games on numerous occasions the girls couldn't get over the line to score a victory.
It was Phoebe and Hannah's last Western carnival having also represented softball and athletics over the years.
Phoebe and Hannah have always given 100 per cent effort in every match and encouraged and expected those around them to also give their best efforts.
A potent righty/lefty doubles combination, the twins have defeated much higher ranked opponents with their superb strategies which has mainly been due to playing against adults and being challenged in the night competition for years.
Holly was playing in her fourth year, Maddy her third while Ellen was the baby of the team and all gained a lot of experience having Phoebe and Hannah encouraging them during the week.
Hannah and Phoebe are the twin daughters of David and Diane Potts who have been long serving supporters and very generous of their time during their four daughters' involvement in tennis for the past 15 years.
Parkes Tennis will certainly miss the Potts' involvement next year as the girls are sitting their HSC exams next week and plan to head off to University.
