Pair busted smoking cannabis at Parkes cemetery

A 25-year-old Parkes man has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug after a routine police patrol on Wednesday.

Officers were conducting a general patrol of the Parkes Cemetery shortly after 12am on Wednesday when they observed a silver sedan parked in the area.

When police stopped and spoke to the two occupants of the vehicle they could smell cannabis.

Officers asked the two if they had anything they wished to declare.

One produced a glass bong and an ice pipe as well as a clear resealable bag containing what police allege to be just under two grams of cannabis.

While searching the vehicle officers located another ice pipe in the glove box.

The man will appear in Parkes Local Court on December 16.

As a result of the accident, the rear tray was torn from the chassis.

The driver was conveyed to Parkes Hospital with suspected neck injuries.

Further examination revealed a hairline fracture in his neck.

At the time of the police report he was in a neck brace awaiting consultation.
